Assessment Criteria for Membership
LDI is committed to providing the highest level of service and assistance to all our members. Our priority is to promote our members by encouraging professionalism, exemplary conduct and ethical work practices.
Being a professional member is highly valued as a real point of difference when consumers are seeking quality and reliability.
Applicants must prove their eligibility to become a professional member of the association. Each application is treated on a case-by-case basis depending on the mix of qualifications, experience, portfolio submission and level of expertise. The past record, including any conduct issues, of any applicant seeking to re-join LDI after a period of lapsed membership will be taken into consideration.
As part of ensuring we maintain the professionalism of the association as a whole, there is a careful selection process for applicants. Applications are reviewed by LDI's Membership Committee and National Council.
Once membership is granted, members are to uphold our Code of Ethics and use of Logo Rules during the lifespan of their membership.
RLD membership enables a member to provide evidence to an interested third party that their qualifications and skills in landscape design have been assessed by LDI's Membership Committee and have been found to meet the criteria detailed on the LDI website. The member is Registered with LDI in accordance with the criteria - it is not a registration pertaining to any other legal entity or Government agency.
Qualifications:
Professional Landscape Designer (PLD)
To qualify for PLD membership, evidence of a suitable qualification equal to or above Diploma (AQF 5) is required. If formal design qualifications are not held, a minimum of 7 years' experience in the landscape industry is required alongside the portfolio.
LDI Registered Landscape Designer (RLD)
To apply for LDI Registered Landscape Designer (RLD) membership, applications must be submitted by LDI members with 7 years of professional landscape design experience (minimum). LDI invites applications for RLD membership from existing PLD members in March and September each year.
Note: all applicants wishing to advertise or promote services in other landscape industries such as Landscape Architecture or Arboriculture must provide specific evidence of current and relevant industry recognised qualifications.
Portfolio Guidelines:
All applicants are required to submit a design portfolio including a minimum of 3 projects that showcase a diverse range of their best work for evaluation in which they confirm that they are the sole author of all the designs and documentation submitted for assessment.
