Commercial Landscape Design - Design Brief:
The garden space was to be used as a Childcare Centre. This area of Landscape Design is a highly regulated environment meaning additional planning and precautions are required to meet the various layers of governance.
These restrictions limit the types of plants that can be used, the construction materials selected, the required offset of spaces between objects, the heights of both fixed and non-fixed garden items, the use of water, the heights of fences, the amount of shade required, the size of the garden area and the use of materials that may be a danger to children.
The design aims to pack many naturalized play features into the small space while trying to obscure its tight wedge shape. Imposing vertical elements give an exaggerated vertical scale while adjoining open areas provide a sense of depth to the landscape. The surface textures, division of space and plant heights keep the eye moving throughout the landscape and create a sense of interest and depth.
