Catherine Gard, Branch Out Landscape Design - Silver Award
Commercial Landscape Design - Design Brief:
The school had a small, 115m rectangular space adjacent to the basketball court that was currently being used to house four raised metal garden beds for growing vegetables. The site faced north but was overshadowed on the east side by a three storey classroom block.
The school wanted to utilize the area more productively. They wanted to create an outdoor learning area for the children to sit and listen to the teacher in the natural environment but also retain its function as a vegetable patch. There was also a wish to recognize the aboriginal ancestors of the area in some small way, as this was currently absent in the school grounds.
