Landscape Design - Commercial Open Space 

Design Brief:

Weave Youth & Community,  a non-profit organisation  working with disadvantaged and vulnerable young people and families, needed a neglected public space, Poets Corner, transformed into a safe and welcoming space for the community.

The area was made up of unkept lawn, three picnic tables and a concrete set of steps. There was a need for shade and protection from the sun, outdoor cooking facilities and incorporating something for the children. Everything needed to be low maintenance and hardy as no irrigation would be incorporated, plus it was a high traffic area.

From the conception, this project valued the importance of engaging the community. Everyone involved shared the opinion, that if the residents were involved, they would respect the space. Presenting the concept designs to the residents, allowing them the opportunity to provide feedback proved helpful and provided an insight into their needs and wants.

Throughout the construction and ongoing maintenance the community were involved and contributed to the space.
